Manchester City triumphed with a commanding 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen in the opening leg of the Champions League’s last-16 round at Parken Stadium.

Amid an 11-game win streak, the English champions demonstrated their prowess on the European stage.

The game commenced with Manchester City dominating possession, holding nearly 80% in the initial phase. Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a precise finish, underlining City’s offensive capabilities. Nonetheless, Copenhagen’s Magnus Mattsson levelled the score with a remarkable debut goal from a distance.

City quickly reasserted their dominance, with Bernardo Silva executing a skilful shot past goalkeeper Kamil Grabara before the break. An injury to Jack Grealish led to Jeremy Doku’s entry, ensuring City’s attack remained relentless.

Copenhagen’s lack of match fitness after the winter break hindered them, and they found it challenging to repel City’s continuous pressure. Ederson’s rare misstep resulted in Mattsson’s goal, briefly exposing City’s defence.

Phil Foden clinched the victory with a decisive goal in the closing minutes, extending City’s unbeaten European streak to 21 matches.

Kevin De Bruyne praised Copenhagen’s effort but noted City’s missed chances, particularly in the second half, suggesting a potential for a more significant scoreline.

Looking ahead to the return leg on March 6 at Etihad Stadium, Manchester City is set to leverage their two-goal advantage.

The team’s quest for consecutive Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup titles remains undiminished, showcasing their determination to achieve footballing excellence.
