The Malcolm in the Middle revival is bringing one of television’s most memorable families back after two decades. Officially titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, the four-episode limited series premieres on April 10, 2026.
The show will stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the United States. Internationally, Disney+ will handle streaming.
Several original cast members are returning for the new series. Bryan Cranston is back as Hal, Frankie Muniz returns as Malcolm, and Jane Kaczmarek reprises her role as Lois.
Christopher Kennedy Masterson also returns as Francis, Justin Berfield is back as Reese, and Emy Coligado returns as Piama. That reunion gives the revival a strong connection to the original sitcom.
What the New Story Is About
This time, the story follows Malcolm as an adult. He is now trying to keep his daughter away from the chaos that shaped his own family life.
However, that plan quickly falls apart when Hal and Lois push him to come home for their 40th wedding anniversary celebration. As a result, the revival sets up another round of family dysfunction, now with a new generation involved.
The new cast includes Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter, Leah and Kiana Madeira as his girlfriend, Tristan. Vaughan Murrae joins as Kelly, while Caleb Ellsworth-Clark takes over the role of Dewey.
Dewey has been recast because Erik Per Sullivan did not return for the revival. Even so, the project retains much of its original creative identity.
Linwood Boomer, who created the original series, returns as a writer and executive producer. In addition, Ken Kwapis directed all four episodes. That continuity matters. It suggests the new series aims to preserve the original tone while advancing the story.
The revival is not framed as a long-running reboot. Instead, it is a four-part limited story, which gives it a more focused structure.
For longtime viewers, that may be part of the appeal. The original Malcolm in the Middle stood out for balancing absurd comedy with emotional realism. Now, Life’s Still Unfair will test whether that formula still connects with an audience and a cast that is both much older.
Hulu is clearly positioning the project as a major reunion event. Nostalgia is a major draw, but the adult version of Malcolm adds a new angle to the story.
That gives the revival more than a familiar title. It offers a chance to revisit the Wilkerson family while asking whether anyone in that orbit ever really escapes the chaos.
