Karachi: Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim passed away at a private hospital in Karachi on Saturday. He will be laid to rest this afternoon.

Fahim had been ailing for some time and had returned to Pakistan late last month to spend some time family and friends. He had been brought to Karachi via an air ambulance on the 26th of October.

Prior to his return, the senior leader and veteran politician had been receiving treatment in Germany, England and the UAE and in light of his deteriorating health he wished to return home to Pakistan for a few days, his spokesman Aslam Pirzada told Geo News upon his return last month.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim

Born in 1939 on the 4th of August in Hala, district Matiari, Amin Fahim contested elections 8 times between 1977 and 2013. During the first tenure of Late Benazir Bhutto Amin Fahim served as Federal Information Minister between 1988 and 1990.

After the 2008 elections Amin Fahim was given the portfolio of Federal Minister for Trade and Industries.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim was a PPP loyalist who never left the party from the first days of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto till the time of his death when Bhutto’s grandson Bilawal took over the helm of affairs of the party.

Fahim was said to be one of the most trusted companions of Benazir Bhutto.
