On Tuesday, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry of General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) emphasized that those involved in the May 9 riots must face legal consequences to maintain trust in the justice system.
He stated during a Rawalpindi press conference, “The May 9 riots concern not only the army but the entire nation.”
Maj Gen Chaudhry declared, “We will not engage in discussions with any leader or group that targets and defames the army.”
He added that anarchist groups must renounce hostility and embrace constructive politics to move forward.
“The army engages with political entities, not institutions,” he clarified.
Regarding terrorism, he affirmed that evidence links the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to attacks from Afghan territories.
“There’s proof that recent attacks originated from Afghanistan,” he continued.
Maj Gen Chaudhry reassured us that Pakistan is committed to eradicating terrorism and prioritizing national security.
“The army chief asserts that terrorists have no place in Pakistan,” he reassured, promising justice against offenders.
He also addressed the presence of Afghan refugees in Pakistan, noting their significant number despite ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
He reported that over 563,000 Afghan nationals have returned home, although millions remain.
He concluded by stating that militants disrupt Balochistan’s peace, but the army remains resilient against such threats.
