A photo of Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib in police custody has gone viral.
Islamabad police arrested Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib from his home on February 27. He was arrested for inciting hatred and defaming national institutions.
Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib appears on different Tv shows as the defense analyst and has a YouTube channel in the police’s custody for incitement.
In a Twitter message, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Chairman, Imran Khan, said, “I feel embarrassed as a Pakistani to witness the depths we have sunk to thanks to this imported regime of a cabal of crooks & their handlers. In desperation to cling to power & muzzle all dissenting voices, they have jailed a respected, patriotic Pakistani on sedition charges.”
The viral photo on different social media platforms shows Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib with his hands folded and eyes on the camera behind the jail bars.
The former military officer appeared in Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah’s court the day he was detained. The prosecution notified the court that the former three-star general was charged and asked for a seven-day physical remand.
Prosecutor Adnan claimed that Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib’s statement incited government, opposition and government employee hatred.
The local Islamabad court rejected the police’s request and placed him on a three-day physical remand.
