Recent investigations in Sindh have exposed the hazardous practice of adulterating Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) with carbon dioxide, particularly in Sukkur and Pano Aqil, which has raised safety concerns, given the enhanced pressure levels of the tampered gas compared to standard LPG.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has actively responded to these revelations. Detailed investigations revealed that in several regions of Sindh, unscrupulous vendors were selling LPG adulterated with carbon dioxide. This discovery was made during raids led by the Assistant Commissioner of Pano Aqil, who identified illegal operations at four locations.
In response to these findings, OGRA’s enforcement teams inspected various LPG distribution sites in Pano Aqil. These inspections uncovered ongoing illegal activities and extremely unsafe storage practices, including using browsers instead of certified LPG tanks.
To address this critical issue, OGRA Chairman Masroor Khan convened a high-level meeting attended by the Attorney General, Provincial Advocate Generals, and Secretaries. The meeting aimed to assess the risks associated with this illicit activity and develop a coordinated response. The attendees agreed on a series of immediate actions to halt these practices and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
The resolution from this meeting emphasized the utilization of all available legal avenues to eliminate such unlawful activities and safeguard public safety. OGRA has committed to rigorously enforcing regulations and pursuing legal actions against those violating safety standards, underscoring their dedication to protecting public safety and property.
