Liverpool FC have mutually agreed to part ways with set-piece coach Aaron Briggs following a disappointing defensive record in Europe’s top five leagues.
Briggs joined Liverpool in July 2024 as an individual development coach. The club later assigned him responsibility for set pieces after failing to recruit a specialist for the role. He formally took charge in September, but concerns over defensive performance soon emerged.
During his tenure, Liverpool conceded 12 goals from set pieces, the highest tally among clubs competing in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1. After just three months in the role, club officials decided a change was necessary and reached a mutual agreement with Briggs to end the arrangement.

In a statement confirming his departure, Liverpool said: “Liverpool FC can confirm Aaron Briggs has departed his role as set-piece coach of the men’s first team.”
The club added that Briggs had contributed to last season’s Premier League title success as part of head coach Arne Slot’s backroom staff and wished him well for the future.

According to reports from The Times, Liverpool does not plan to appoint a direct replacement. Responsibility for set-piece organisation will now fall to Slot and the existing coaching team, as the club looks to tighten its defensive structure going forward.
