Apple has officially launched the iPhone 16 Series, Apple Watch Series 10, and AirPods 4 at its 2024 ‘It’s Glowtime’ event. The event also showcased expected introductions of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, along with updates on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, tvOS 18, and watchOS 11, which are set to roll out soon.
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max Launch
The iPhone 16 Pro features a 6.3-inch display, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch screen, boasting the thinnest bezels yet on an iPhone. Available in Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and Desert Titanium, these models include larger batteries, enhancing their performance and usability.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing for the iPhone 16 starts at $799, with the iPhone 16 Plus priced at $899, both available from September 20. These new models introduce the Apple A18 chip, enhancing the camera with a Camera Control button for new Apple Intelligence features, allowing users to take macro photos and capture spatial video. The vertical camera layout remains, supporting the same 48-megapixel camera as the iPhone 15.
New Features and Enhancements
The iPhone 16 also introduces a Visual Intelligence feature, accessible via a new dedicated Camera Control button. This feature enables users to perform visual lookups and integrate functionalities like Google image search and ChatGPT.
Scheduled to begin next month in the US, the rollout of Apple Intelligence will bring advanced features to recent iOS 18.1 builds on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, initially previewed at WWDC 2024.
The iPhone 16 also has an Action button, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro, and a new touch-sensitive camera control button. Compared to the A16 Bionic chip, the Apple A18 chip provides a 30% increase in CPU performance and a 30% reduction in power usage.
AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) and AirPods 4
Furthermore, Apple has updated the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) with a Hearing Protection feature to safeguard users in loud environments. This feature utilizes machine learning to activate automatically. These will also soon function as hearing aids.
Additionally, Apple introduced a new AirPods 4 model featuring Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Transparency modes. The standard model costs $129, while the more advanced model costs $179.
Lastly, the new AirPods 4 are equipped with the H2 chip for improved audio quality and Personalized Spatial Audio. Enhanced call quality is achieved through machine learning and voice isolation, and the charging case includes force sensors and a USB Type-C port.
