The 95th Academy Awards, one of Hollywood’s most important events, will be telecast on March 12th.
The Dolby Theater has hosted the ceremony since 2002 and will host this year’s Oscars, including the entertainment industry’s most prominent figures. But, not every Hollywood celebrity has assured an invitation to the event.
Numerous notable individuals have previously been denied invitations to the Oscars. Will Smith is one of the most recent actors. After making a few jokes about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, during the Oscars, comedian Chris Rock was slapped live on air by the Men in Black actor.
Will was immediately informed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that he could no longer represent the organization at any events for the next ten years.
Details of Celebrities banned from the Oscar Awards, and why?
Richard Gere, who acted in some of the best films of all time, such as Beautiful Woman and An Officer and a Gentleman, was incarcerated for a staggering twenty years.
Richard was meant to deliver the Art Design Oscar at the 1993 Academy Awards, but instead, he insulted the Chinese government while on stage.
The actor expressed concern about the ongoing confrontation between China and Tibet and suggested that China withdraw its troops and offer Tibet independence. The Academy banned Richard from attending the Oscars for twenty years after he made a controversial statement.
Carmine Caridi, who appeared in The Godfather: Part II, became the first Academy member to be permanently expelled. In 2004, he was detected copying advance viewing copies of nominated films. The FBI investigated the actor after discovering that copies of the films Something’s Gotta Give, The Last Samurai, Mystic River, Big Fish, and Master and Commander: Far Side of the Earth were connected to him.
Several celebrities were disqualified for more serious offenses: filmmaker Roman Polanski was banned from the Academy in 2018, more than four decades after he was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl. In addition, bill Cosby was disqualified due to sexual assault allegations.
Harvey Weinstein was granted a permanent ban in 2017 after being charged with many sexual assault cases.
