LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman has sparked widespread discussion with his prediction that traditional 9-to-5 jobs will disappear by 2034, as stated in a viral video.

In the clip, Hoffman explains that artificial intelligence (AI) will significantly disrupt current workforce structures, ending conventional job arrangements.

According to Hoffman, future employment may not involve traditional employment but instead consist of gig work across various sectors. This shift could result in less job security but offer greater flexibility and a broader range of opportunities.

Your 9-to-5 job is dying.

By 2034, it'll be extinct.

That's Reid Hoffman's latest prediction – the founder of LinkedIn who predicted the rise of social media in 1997.

— Neal Taparia (@nealtaparia) July 24, 2024

Neal Taparia, an entrepreneur and angel investor, highlighted Hoffman’s track record of successful forecasts in his share of the video.

Taparia pointed out that Hoffman had accurately predicted major trends, such as the rise of social media, the sharing economy, and AI advancements, as early as 1997, decades before technologies like ChatGPT emerged. He noted the astonishing pace at which AI has evolved, rendering millions of jobs obsolete shortly after ChatGPT’s introduction, prompting companies worldwide to adapt by training employees in AI technologies.

In his commentary, Taparia emphasized Hoffman’s foresight in several areas: “Hoffman’s predictions have been eerily accurate: he foresaw social networks reshaping our world, was an early investor in Airbnb, and anticipated the AI revolution well before the advent of ChatGPT,” he remarked.

Additionally, Taparia suggested that freelancers might eventually earn more than those in permanent positions and speculated that traditional resumes or CVs could become outdated.

Hoffman’s insights underline an evolving trend towards altered employment structures, driven largely by technological advancements.
