The Lahore High Court (LHC) has nullified Absar Alam’s appointment as chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Authority (PEMRA).
Justice Shahid Karim announced the decision on the petition filed by Munir Ahmed, who pleaded that Alam’s appointment as PEMRA chief was made out of the way, that he did not fulfil the criteria and that he was misusing his position by pursuing the agenda of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
The petitioner also pleaded that the Supreme Court’s judgments barred contractual appointments on permanent posts, whereas Absar Alam was appointed as acting chairman of PEMRA.
On Nov 29, the court had reserved the verdict on the petition challenging the appointment.
