On Tuesday, Lahore High Court (LHC) asked the Punjab government to close schools for three days weekly due to smog.
The court issued the directions during a hearing on pollution and smog in Lahore and other Punjab cities.
The court ordered the Punjab government’s lawyer to notify of tomorrow’s school closures.
LHC Justice Shahid Karim said the provincial government was not concerned about reducing smog.
Regretting that smog was spreading, the judge ordered the EPA to strengthen penalties for brick kilns and industries that violated laws and procedures.
“A brick kiln or plant that commits infractions should be dismantled,” the judge said.
The judge noted that haze was causing health problems for citizens and requested a report on amending or improving industry standards.
