Leonardo DiCaprio almost lost Jack Dawson’s role in Titanic.
While talking to GQ, James Cameron revealed that DiCaprio threw outbursts during his initial auditions.
Cameron told GQ: “Leo wowed everyone, even me. And I said, ‘All right, let’s see what his chemistry is like with Kate.'”
“He responded, “You mean I have to read? I don’t read. So I thanked him for auditioning.”
“Wait, Wait,” he said. I don’t get the part if I don’t read. So?” continued the director. “I thought, “This is a huge movie that will take two years of my life, so I won’t mess it up by casting poorly.” You must read to get the portion.'”
Leo auditioned and got the part.
