Lenovo plans to reveal updates for its Legion Go series during the CES 2025 event on January 7, improving its range of Windows-based gaming handhelds.
The tech giant has been discreet about its upcoming portable gaming devices, which reportedly include a more compact Lenovo Legion Go S and a larger second-generation Legion Go. However, recent leaks and Lenovo’s confirmation hint at exciting developments, including a potential SteamOS variant of the Legion Go S.
The Verge reports that Lenovo has issued invitations for the “Lenovo Legion x AMD: The Future of Gaming Handhelds” event, confirming the attendance of SteamOS and Steam Deck co-designer Pierre-Loup Griffais. The event will feature a cocktail reception, insights from Lenovo Legion and AMD gaming leaders, special guests from Valve, and other notable figures in the gaming industry. Attendees can expect discussions on future trends in gaming handhelds and demonstrations of the latest Lenovo Legion Go innovations powered by AMD.

Valve’s participation strongly suggests that Lenovo might introduce a Legion Go S model running SteamOS, aligning with leaked renders showing a dedicated Steam button. Tipster Evan Blass recently shared images on X (formerly Twitter) of two versions of the unrevealed handheld—a white model, likely Windows-based, and a black variant featuring a Steam button.

Based on the leaks, the Lenovo Legion Go S appears to be a smaller, more streamlined version of Lenovo’s initial handheld, sporting a rounded design without detachable controllers. Blass also revealed images of a second, larger Legion Go model equipped with detachable controllers and an OLED screen, which seems to be a direct successor to the original Legion Go.

Lenovo is expected to unveil new models at CES, likely featuring AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip. This news arrives as Valve intends to broaden SteamOS support to additional Windows-based handhelds, such as the Asus ROG Ally. It provides a more console-like experience via its Linux-based operating system for accessing Steam’s digital games storefront.
