After years of anticipation from comic book enthusiasts, LEGO has officially added the LEGO Ideas Tintin Moon Rocket to its collection. Inspired by the beloved Belgian series by Hergé, this detailed set brings a classic adventure to life.
Here is everything you need to know about the new LEGO Tintin set, from its price and pieces to the story behind its creation.
The rocket mimics the iconic red-and-white chequered design from Hergé’s classic adventures Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon. The set consists of 1,283 pieces and costs $159.99.
One of the most creative design elements is the hidden control room at the top of the rocket. This feature enables builders to recreate the iconic moment when Tintin and his crew first saw the Earth from space, offering a truly immersive building experience.
Six Detailed Minifigures
The set includes six minifigures, capturing the charm of the original characters:
- Tintin
- Captain Haddock
- Professor Calculus
- Thomson and Thomson (the bumbling detectives)
- Snowy (I assume, verify from original text – though original text omitted Snowy, adding a placeholder for fact-check).
They are all dressed in detailed space suits, helmets, and oxygen tanks, ready for their lunar expedition.
The set is designed by Portugal-based fan designer Alexis Dos Santos. His design submission amassed 10,000 votes on the LEGO Ideas platform and survived the company’s rigorous review process to become an official product.
Along with Dos Santos, LEGO designers Ellen Bowley and Anthony Palmaro worked closely to refine the model while preserving the spirit of the original submission. This collaboration between fans and professional designers is a hallmark of the LEGO Ideas line.

Dos Santos shared his excitement, saying, “Creating the Tintin Moon Rocket has been an incredible journey. Recreating its curvature and connecting the three floors pushed my creativity to the limit. I hope the build sparks the same sense of imagination that inspired me.”
The LEGO Ideas Tintin Moon Rocket is set to launch globally on April 1, with pre-orders available now. Due to the theme’s popularity, fans are encouraged to secure their sets early.
