Despite a shocking video, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office cannot prosecute Sean “P Diddy” Combs due to a legal loophole. Recorded in 2016, the video’s release this week cannot lead to charges because of the statute of limitations.
The video allegedly shows Combs assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Despite the video’s disturbing nature, the LA DA stated it had been legally barred from prosecuting incidents since 2016.
On Instagram, the LA DA’s office commented on the video’s impact, acknowledging its disturbing content but noting the limitations for legal action due to timing.
The video displays Combs, in a towel, attacking Ventura in a hotel hallway. He is seen shoving, kicking, and using objects as weapons against her.
Captured in the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles, the footage shows a violent altercation near an elevator.
Cassie’s lawyer, Douglas H. Wigdor, described the video as a confirmation of Combs’ “predatory behaviour” and praised Ventura’s courage.
In response, Diddy’s attorney, Ben Brafman, denied the allegations, calling them “offensive and outrageous.”
