LeBron James’ dissatisfaction with the Los Angeles Lakers’ performance and his social media actions have sparked trade rumours, leading two NBA teams to explore trade possibilities before the early February trade deadline.
Despite ongoing rumours about James’ willingness to leave the Lakers following a disappointing season—where the team ranks ninth in the Western Conference with a 29-26 record—an industry insider hinted at James’ potential departure due to his public discontent with the team’s results. This situation led to speculation about his openness to embracing a new opportunity.
ESPN NBA expert Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Golden State Warriors and another team attempted to secure James from the Lakers. Under the encouragement of star player Draymond Green, the Warriors formally approached the Lakers, indicating a structured negotiation effort.
In response to the Warriors’ inquiry fueled by Green’s support, Golden State’s owner Joe Lacob contacted Lakers’ Jeanie Buss. Lacob inquired if James’ evident frustration hinted at a willingness to consider a trade. Buss clarified the Lakers’ stance of not wanting to trade James but suggested consulting James’ agent, Rich Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports, for further insights into James’ perspective.
Subsequently, on the brink of the trade deadline, Paul conveyed to Lacob and Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. that James had no interest in leaving and wished to stay with the Lakers.
Similarly, when the Philadelphia 76ers expressed interest in James, Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka inquired about Joel Embiid’s availability in return, which the 76ers promptly declined.
James, a six-time NBA champion with an impressive season average of 24.8 points, 7.8 assists, and 7.2 rebounds, continues to draw attention. However, the Lakers’ recent performance surge, highlighted by a 139-125 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, suggests they may retain him for the foreseeable future.
