The federal government decided to maintain petrol prices while announcing an increase of Rs1.77 per litre of high-speed diesel for the forthcoming two-week period.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Finance, effective March 15, the diesel price was raised to Rs 285.56 per litre, up from Rs 283.79, impacting sectors heavily reliant on this fuel, such as transportation. This is significant as diesel powers various heavy machinery and vehicles across multiple sectors, including agriculture and public transportation, influencing the cost of goods, particularly food items.

Petrol prices remain steady at Rs279.75 per litre, and no changes have been announced for kerosene and light diesel oil prices.

This price strategy follows a March 1st adjustment under a caretaker government, which raised petrol prices by Rs4.13 per litre for two weeks. These adjustments follow the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) recommendations, positioning petrol at Rs279.75 per litre and leaving high-speed diesel prices unaltered until the recent update.
