Today (Friday) is the last date of the process of filing of nomination papers for local bodies’ (LB) elections in around 20 districts of Sindh and Punjab.
Scrutiny would be held from September 12 to 17 and last date for filing of appeals against the acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers is September 22.
Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is October 01. Revised list of candidates would be published on October 02 and polling would be held on October 31.
In Punjab, local government elections will be held in eleven districts in the first phase. The districts are: Lodhran, Vehari, Okara, Pak Pattan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Bhakkar, Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Gujrat and Chakwal.
In Sindh, polls would be held in the districts of Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Shikarpur, Qamber Shahdadkot, Jacobabad and Kashmore.
Meanwhile, political parties have failed to issue tickets to their respective candidates, creating panic among the party activists.
The Returning Officers have said that number of candidates was increasing as the last date was nearing. They further said majority of the aspirants have claimed in the nomination papers that they do not own any assets, jewellery or bank accounts.
