The year 2025 marks a clear generational shift in world football. Icons such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo no longer dominate every global metric. Their influence remains strong, but individual awards, media attention and commercial indicators now point toward a new era. At the centre of this transition stands Lamine Yamal.

According to figures published by football analytics platform Score 90, the FC Barcelona winger has recorded the highest global football shirt sales so far this year. Since January 2025, Yamal has sold an estimated 1.32 million jerseys worldwide, placing him ahead of some of the most recognisable names in the sport.

Messi ranks second globally, with around 1.28 million shirts sold, driven largely by his continued worldwide appeal at Inter Miami and the expanding reach of Major League Soccer. Completing the top three is Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, whose shirt sales stand at approximately 1.1 million units in 2025.

In fourth place sits Kylian Mbappé with 1.02 million shirts sold, while Vinícius Júnior follows closely with figures approaching one million. The remainder of the top ten includes globally influential players such as Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Bruno Fernandes, Harry Kane, and Rodrygo, with the group’s lowest-selling player still close to 779,000 units.

A Commercial Windfall for Barcelona

Beyond symbolic prestige, Yamal’s rise is delivering tangible financial returns for Barcelona. The club’s official store prices his jersey at around €114. When combined with reported sales volumes, the 18-year-old has generated an estimated €135 million in gross revenue for the club in 2025 alone.

This commercial impact underlines Barcelona’s enduring global reach and the growing value of home-grown talent emerging from La Masia. Yamal’s appeal now extends far beyond the pitch, placing him among football’s most powerful commercial assets.

Despite frequent comparisons with Messi, Yamal continues to emphasise his own path. He has previously said that being compared to the Argentine legend is an honour, but he remains focused on building his own identity.
