Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was misled by a fake tweet from a fan account on X, which falsely claimed that Zendaya supported his teammate, Zay Flowers, as her choice for the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year.
The tweet read, “Actress Zendaya reveals in a new interview that her favorite NFL player is Zay Flowers. He just has a certain swagger to him and in the way he plays. He’s so fun to watch, and it’s hard to imagine anyone else winning OPOY at this moment.”
Caught up in the excitement, Jackson retweeted it with a playful comment, “@ZayFlowers let’s goooooooo, send her some ‘Zendaya Flowers’ awwww I absolutely love it.”
Fans swiftly raised doubts about the authenticity of the claim. While the incident elicited laughter, including a humorous response from Flowers, it underscored the ease with which misinformation can spread, even among NFL stars.
Zendaya, an acclaimed actor and singer, sang the national anthem at a 2013 Ravens game. Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey once jokingly suggested she leave Tom Holland for him. However, Zendaya has never publicly favoured any NFL player for awards.
Zay Flowers delivered an impressive rookie season with the Baltimore Ravens, setting team records for receptions and yards. However, his performance was overshadowed by a crucial fumble during the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year. Meanwhile, Jackson won his second MVP award, marking a strong season despite the Ravens’ playoff defeat.
