Los Angeles Lakers have focused on fixing the team with immediate impact players for a long time.
Lacker’s strategy worked after winning the 2020 NBA championship with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Since that championship, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, and Patrick Beverley have joined the team. But, unfortunately, none have met the team’s immediate needs. So with those results, the team leader will try something new. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported this.
His sources say the Lakers will only pursue players who can improve the team over three years or more. They only want the best players to play with LeBron James in his prime. The 38-year-old Akron Kid averages 30 PPG. Unfortunately, he’s still playing like he has two or three more years at the top, and the Lakers feel like they wasted many chances with one of the best.
The report suggests the Lakers won’t pursue players during the trading season and will wait until the off-season to make major roster changes. If they can wait until July to get LeBron James’ best partner, they won’t rush a deal in February. Instead, the Lakers will wait on an All-Star with at least three great years left. The goal is to find a franchise player to succeed LeBron James when he leaves.
