On July 16, 2025, torrential rains severely impacted Lahore and other cities in Punjab, leading to widespread flooding, power outages, and significant traffic disruptions.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts that this wet weather will continue until July 17, raising concerns about the potential for urban flooding and landslides. Many low-lying areas were submerged, and homes were inundated. Tragically, a woman lost her life due to electrocution in Pakpattan. Authorities have activated emergency response measures and are advising residents to avoid any hazards.
Heavy rain caused flooding on major roads, including Ferozepur Road, Canal Road, and Gulberg. Water entered homes in the Board of Revenue Society in Johar Town. Power outages affected numerous feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), with restoration efforts commencing after the rain.

Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) recorded peak rainfall: 171mm in Paniwala Talab, 169mm in Iqbal Town, and over 100mm in Tajpura, Samanabad, and Lakshmi Chowk. Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza inspected Gaddafi Stadium areas, directing swift drainage in low-lying zones. All underpasses remained clear, per the Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell.
Intermittent rains have affected several areas, including Pattoki, Okara, Sahiwal, Chichawatni, Mian Channu, Sargodha, Sialkot, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Arifwala, Sheikhupura, and Pakpattan. In Faisalabad and Arifwala, power outages occurred, while water entered homes in Sheikhupura’s Ghang Road and Shah Colony. Tragically, in Pakpattan, a woman lost her life due to electrocution.
Nationwide, monsoon rains claimed 111 lives by July 16, with heavy falls expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Islamabad.
The Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Ali Kathia, has activated control rooms and alerted deputy commissioners in anticipation of possible flash floods. Rescue 1122 and WASA are preparing their machinery for emergency response. Kathia urged for prompt drainage and cautioned against hazards such as downed wires, standing water, and unstable buildings. In Hyderabad, power restoration is ongoing following wind damage. Lahore experienced heavy rain, causing major disruptions, but authorities are responding actively.
