The Punjab government has announced a five-day public holiday in Lahore from February 4 to February 8, combining national observances with the city’s traditional Basant celebrations.
According to an official notification, the holiday period will begin on February 4 with Shab-e-Barat. February 5 will mark Kashmir Day, followed by Basant festivities from February 6 to February 8. The schedule gives residents five consecutive days off.
Schools and Offices to Remain Closed
During the holiday period, schools, colleges, and government offices across Lahore will remain closed. Officials said the move will allow families to participate in Basant activities and observe national and religious occasions without disruption.
The city administration said the extended break aims to promote cultural heritage, encourage social interaction, and offer recreational opportunities to citizens.
Safety Measures for Basant
Authorities have stressed strict safety arrangements for Basant, particularly around kite-flying. In the past, the festival has raised concerns over crowd control and accidents linked to unsafe practices.

City officials said they will enforce regulations to ensure celebrations remain safe and organised. Law enforcement agencies and local administrations will monitor public areas throughout the festivities.
Cultural Events Planned
Local organisers are preparing a range of events to mark Basant responsibly. Planned activities include kite-flying competitions, musical evenings, and community gatherings designed to celebrate Lahore’s cultural identity in a controlled environment.
Officials said the focus will remain on balancing tradition with public safety as the city prepares for one of its most popular seasonal celebrations.
