Former Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar has declined to submit a critical file to the joint investigation team (JIT) pertaining to an attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.
On November 3 of the previous year, Imran Khan survived an assassination attempt in Wazirabad. Although the PTI leader managed to escape the dangerous situation, he suffered leg injuries.
Sources within the JIT have disclosed that they attempted to obtain the file from Dogar, but he has consistently refused to comply with their requests. The file is considered crucial for the investigation into the assassination attempt on the PTI chairman.
It is important to note that Dogar faced accusations of having connections with the PTI government while he served as the CCPO of Lahore. These allegations raise questions about his refusal to hand over the file.
In his defense, Dogar stated that PTI leader Yasmin Rashid submitted a petition to the court concerning the case. He asserted that he would only surrender the file after the high court’s verdict.
The JIT sources have expressed that the investigation into the attempted assassination of Imran Khan has come to a standstill due to the unavailability of the critical file.
The present JIT team comprises Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kamran Adil, Superintendent of Police (SP) Naseebullah, and Ehsanullah Chohan. These investigators are tasked with delving into the details of the assassination attempt, but the lack of essential information has hampered their efforts.
Ghulam Mehmood Dogar reached retirement age and officially retired as Lahore CCPO on April 23.
