Lahore police have arrested Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Muhammad Usman Haider Gujjar on charges of murdering his wife and daughter, officials confirmed on Sunday. Investigators said the arrest followed a breakthrough in what was initially reported as a kidnapping case.
The DSP’s wife and daughter had gone missing around six weeks ago from Lahore’s Burki area. At the time, Usman Haider filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Burki police station, claiming unidentified suspects had abducted his family members.
Due to the sensitivity of the case and the involvement of a senior police officer, authorities formed a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to conduct a detailed probe.
According to police sources, evidence gathered during the investigation raised serious doubts about the abduction claim. During questioning, DSP Usman Haider reportedly confessed to shooting his wife and daughter to death.

Investigators recovered one body from Kahna and the second from Sheikhupura, confirming the homicide allegations.
Following the arrest, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab ordered the immediate suspension of DSP Usman Haider, who had been serving in the Kahna Police Investigation Wing.
A police spokesperson said the DSP had earlier claimed he returned home late from duty to find the house locked and both mobile phones switched off. He told investigators he searched for his family but failed to locate them.
Police said suspicion deepened when Usman Haider submitted the missing persons report after an unusual delay. Investigators then re-examined the case, uncovered inconsistencies in his statements, and expanded the inquiry. The findings ultimately led to his arrest.
