The Supreme Court has given a one-month deadline to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to finalize the date of local bodies’ election in the province.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, issued its orders while hearing a case pertaining to local government elections and delimitation of electoral constituencies.
A representative of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) told the court that the commission needed four to five months to install biometric system in KPK.
Advocate General Sindh appeared before the bench and stated that an amendment bill on LB elections would be presented in Sindh Assembly today. He said the bill proposes transfer of power of delimitations to the ECP.
After hearing the authorities, the bench gave one-month time to KPK to decide the date of the local body elections.
