The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a special laptop scheme for blind and visually impaired students, aiming to expand access to digital learning across the province.
Under the initiative, eligible students enrolled in colleges, universities, or religious seminaries can apply. Applicants must hold permanent residency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and provide a valid disability certificate issued by the Social Welfare Department.
Officials said the scheme seeks to equip students with modern technology to support their education. The government will distribute laptops on a merit-based basis, subject to funding availability, with academic performance playing a key role in selection.
Students can submit applications through the government’s online MIS system, available on the Social Welfare Department’s official website. Authorities confirmed that the process will remain transparent and fully merit-based.

A department official said the programme reflects the province’s commitment to equal educational opportunities. By providing digital tools, the government aims to help students with disabilities overcome learning barriers and participate more fully in academic life.
Education experts have welcomed the move, noting that laptops can significantly improve learning outcomes for visually impaired students. Access to screen readers, assistive software, and online resources can enhance independence and academic engagement.
The scheme forms part of the KP government’s broader strategy to promote inclusive education, strengthen digital literacy, and support the disabled community across the province.
