KP cabinet approves 50% work-from-home policy as part of a fuel conservation and responsible governance push, with new rules affecting government departments across the province.
According to Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan, the cabinet decision includes shifting half of the staff to work from home and moving official operations toward digital coordination to reduce fuel consumption.
The policy includes holding 100% of official meetings virtually and reducing fuel-related costs tied to government transport.
Shafi Jan said fuel allowances for official vehicles will be cut by 25%, while overall fuel consumption for government vehicles will be reduced by 50% under the plan.
Police, rescue and security agencies will be exempt from these fuel reduction measures, the report said.
More Cuts: VIP Protocol, Events, and Education
The measures also aim to curb VIP protocol vehicle and helicopter usage, limit non-essential government events and dinners, and promote tighter control of official spending.
Virtual classes will be prioritised in educational institutions, and Friday closures have been proposed as an additional step to reduce fuel use.

Muzzammil Aslam, the chief minister’s adviser on finance, said the KP government has recommended shortening market hours to save energy.
He added that the federal government has accepted most KP proposals, including steps to reduce the use of government vehicles and improve energy efficiency.
Shafi Jan said the measures will remain in effect for two months, with the goal of protecting the economy without placing undue burden on the public. The report also says that fuel supply to farmers during wheat harvesting will be ensured, and that monitoring of petrol pumps will continue to prevent hoarding.
