The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has again contacted the federal government, requesting an update on its previous letter expressing interest in purchasing the national flag carrier, PIA.
On November 1, KP formally communicated its intent to bid for Pakistan International Airlines, offering a bid that exceeds the highest offer of Rs10 billion from the Blue World Consortium.
In a letter to Abdul Aleem Khan, the federal minister for privatisation, Hassan Masood Kunwar, vice-chairman of the KP Board of Investment and Trade (KP-BOIT), stated that 10 days had passed since the initial communication expressing the board’s intent to participate in PIA’s privatisation.
The letter reiterated that KP was committed to revitalising PIA and preserving its legacy as the national flag carrier. The KP leadership expressed its readiness to offer substantial backing and resources to achieve these goals, aligning with Pakistan’s national interests.
The letter also requested information on when further discussions could take place. It stated that the province was eager to engage with the federal government and present a compelling bid that reflects KP’s commitment to the aviation sector, especially as it is a stakeholder in PIA as part of the federation.
Masood Kunwar said that the province had sent this follow-up letter because the federal government had not responded to the initial communication. He emphasized that KP was not playing politics and was genuinely interested in purchasing PIA, seeking to engage the federal government on the issue.
