Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur addressed the media regarding the Kalabagh Dam, the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, and the support for Punjab during the ongoing flood crisis. Pakistan is facing deadly floods that have killed over 840 people.
Gandapur asked for agreement on building the Kalabagh Dam. He said national interests should take precedence over provincial demands. He explained, “We must satisfy everyone for the future of our children and Pakistan.” The dam can help prevent floods like the 2025 disaster, which caused $50 billion in losses, by controlling water flow. He said concerns should be addressed so the project helps future generations without causing harm.
Is Climate Change to Blame? Analyzing the Causes of the Pakistan Flood
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing heavy rain and flash floods, with 490 deaths so far. Gandapur said relief teams are using all their resources to help the flood victims. He showed support for Punjab, saying, “Punjab is our brother, and we share their suffering.” Punjab has reported 33 flood-related deaths and over 2,200 flooded villages.
Imran Khan’s Release
Gandapur shared two ways to free Imran Khan from Adiala Jail. First, he said the law must be followed. He believes if the law works, false cases will fall apart, and Khan will be free. Second, he said there is no chance of a compromise with the government. He also said PTI stays loyal to Khan’s beliefs and expects to win soon.
Imran Khan’s arrest is connected to the May 9, 2023 riots, which led PTI to hold protests. In July 2025, PTI began a 90-day campaign and is boycotting most by-elections to show they think the process is unfair. The floods, worsened by India releasing water from dams, make his leadership even more important.
