On October 8, 2025, Rotten Tomatoes unveiled the first look at HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set to premiere in January 2026.
The teaser shows Ser Duncan the Tall, a knight, and his squire, Prince Aegon Targaryen, on a hill overlooking soldiers’ tents. Aegon muses about staying “in a place like this,” to which Duncan replies, “You’re in a place like this.” The scene sets a grounded tone for the Game of Thrones prequel.
Creator Ira Parker emphasised a modest approach. “Dunk’s plain and to-the-point,” he told Entertainment Weekly. Unlike the grand openings of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, with Ramin Djawadi’s epic scores, this series opts for simplicity, reflecting Duncan’s no-frills character.

Set 50 years after the Targaryen civil war, which nearly wiped out dragons, the show features a lone, “gnarled” dragon unable to fly. Parker quipped, “If you can’t fly, you’re just a fancy lizard.”
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms expands the Game of Thrones universe, focusing on a humbler tale of knighthood. The first look builds anticipation for fans eager for Westeros’ next chapter.
