The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a crackdown on individuals and businesses that discard trash on streets and footpaths.
On Saturday, notices were served to various restaurants and businesses under the Sindh Local Government Act for their role in public littering.
A KMC spokesperson stated that the city will impose strict penalties on those caught littering. Violators could face fines of up to 50,000 rupees or imprisonment for up to three years.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab declared that municipal inspectors must enforce the law rigorously to curb this issue. He noted that three hotels have already received notices for improperly disposing of waste on footpaths and public areas. These establishments have been given three days to remedy the situation, failing which they will face legal consequences.
This initiative is part of Karachi’s broader effort to enhance cleanliness and discourage public littering, aiming to create a safer and more hygienic environment for all residents.
