Rapper Killer Mike was apprehended and held at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, just before the commencement of the 2024 Grammy Awards. Chris Gardner of The Hollywood Reporter reported that this action stemmed from an outstanding misdemeanour.
At 48, Mike achieved recognition by winning the Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Scientists & Engineers ” and the Best Rap Album for “Michael,” even before the main event began.
Chris Gardner shared an update via Twitter, quoting an official’s clarification that the incident involved a misdemeanour unrelated to the day’s events at the arena. The expectation was for Mike’s release post-resolution, with the source minimizing the situation as “a big nothing.”
Grammy’s chief, Harvey Mason Jr., was seen engaging with the security team and Mike’s representatives before returning backstage. The rapper’s management team did not issue any statements regarding the incident.
Regarding Mike’s release, reports suggest he was expected to be freed from the Crypto Arena later that evening, likely after the Grammy ceremony concluded.
The necessity for Mike’s public detention remains unclear, casting an unfortunate shadow on the rapper’s image.
This incident occurred on a night significant for Mike, marking his first Grammy win since 2003. That year, he was celebrated for contributing to OutKast’s “The Whole World,” winning in the best rap performance category by a duo or group. Additionally, Mike received a nomination in 2018.
