Maulana Siddique Mengal, the president of the Khuzdar Press Club, was tragically killed in a targeted bomb attack in Khuzdar, Balochistan.
Senior journalist Hamid Mir shared a video on Twitter capturing the moment when terrorists threw a bomb inside Mengal’s vehicle, killing him instantly.
Initial reports indicate that the attack occurred as Maulana Siddique Mengal was departing his residence to lead Friday prayers at the Jamia Mosque of Khuzdar Engineering University. The explosive device detonated in his vehicle while it was on Agha Sultan Ibrahim Road, causing the vehicle to be engulfed in flames and completely destroyed.
The violent incident also left nine others injured. Sadly, this was not the first attempt on Mengal’s life; he had survived a previous assassination attempt in 2023. However, this latest attack proved fatal.
The assassination marks the third time a president of the Khuzdar Press Club has been targeted, bringing the total number of club members killed since 2009 to ten. Notably, this attack occurred on World Press Freedom Day, underscoring the severe and ongoing risks faced by journalists in the region.
