On August 17, 2025, the Sindh Police formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the death of journalist Khawar Hussain, who was discovered dead in his car in Sanghar on August 16.
The committee, chaired by Additional IGP CTD Azad Khan, includes DIG West Irfan Baloch and SSP Sanghar Abid Baloch, and is tasked with submitting its report to the IGP of Sindh within two days.
The Sindh government established a medical board of senior doctors and forensic experts to examine Hussain’s body, following requests from his family and the journalist community. CCTV footage shows Hussain parking outside a restaurant, where his bullet-riddled body was later found. He inquired about a washroom twice before returning to his car, with no eyewitnesses reporting gunshots.

He also stated that call data records would be retrieved within 24 hours. The pistol found in the car belonged to Hussain and was kept for safety. The investigation aims to determine whether the death was a suicide or if foul play was involved, amidst ongoing public speculation.
Hussain, a reporter for Dawn News based in Karachi, was found with a gunshot wound to the temple, causing widespread shock. This case, set against the backdrop of Pakistan’s ongoing concerns about journalist safety, could have significant implications for media trust and safety policies.
