Newly released CCTV footage has provided clearer insights into the murder of senior lawyer Advocate Khawaja Shamsul Islam near a mosque in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 6. The video captures the assailant’s movements and the moments leading to the fatal shooting, offering crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Khawaja Shamsul Islam was targeted on the mosque’s staircase as worshippers descended after prayers. Advocate Shamsul Islam was walking down alongside his son when the suspect, Imran Afridi, disguised as a worshipper, approached from the lower level.
The footage shows Afridi, seated among the prayer rows, suddenly standing and moving toward Shamsul Islam. He reaches into his waistcoat’s left pocket, retrieves a pistol, and transfers it to his right hand. As he nears the victim, Afridi opens fire at close range.
