Khairpur police have arrested a young woman and her friend, implicating them in the deaths of 13 members of her family on August 17 in the Pir Jo Goth area, culminating in a complex police investigation.
According to the police report, the motive behind the poisoning was rooted in familial opposition to a marriage the young woman wished to pursue. Faced with rejection from her family, it is alleged that she resorted to adding poison to the family’s food, with devastating consequences.
During the initial investigation, it was revealed that the suspects had intended to marry each other but were met with disapproval from their respective families. In a recorded statement, the female suspect, Shaista, claimed that her co-accused, Amir Buksh, procured the poison used in the crime. Tragically, the casualties included significant members of her and her partner’s families.
The forensic report confirmed poisoning as the cause of death. In response, the police have officially registered a case against the suspects, marking a critical step in addressing this profound family tragedy and seeking justice for the victims.
