The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) has opposed a possible intervention by the government through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) to buy unsold stocks of ginners, saying such a move would hurt free trading on the cotton market. The KCA believes that any intervention from a public sector organisation would be damaging as free cotton trading policy had been safeguarding the interests of all the stakeholders including growers, ginners and the textile industry.
The association said its members have always advocated free export and import of cotton without any quantitative or qualitative restrictions to ensure international price of cotton to growers and also provide level-playing field to all segments of the cotton economy. The KCA said such interventions were not only counterproductive but also disturbed and dislocated the entire cotton trade including growers, ginners and textile industry
