On Monday, the counsel for the suspect in the Karsaz road accident contested the judicial magistrate’s decision to deny bail in the drug-related aspect of the case.
In sessions court, the lawyer argued that critical evidence had been disregarded in the initial bail decision.
Although the families of the victims—two deceased and two injured in the April 19 incident in Karachi—have pardoned the suspect, charges related to drug use remain. Police disclosed that a separate case emerged after tests detected methamphetamine in her blood and urine.
The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) collected these samples following the accident. A new report by a medico-legal officer prompted the state-filed case, which included charges related to the consumption of prohibited substances. Police later reported confirmation of the banned substance in the suspect’s blood.
On September 6, the heirs of the deceased formally pardoned the suspect, submitting an affidavit in court expressing their consent for bail. They stated that the incident was accidental and not intentional. They confirmed that their forgiveness was given freely and was genuine.
