Karachi will experience a significant water shortage today due to essential maintenance work. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) announced a reduction of approximately 100 million gallons during the annual maintenance at the Dhabeji Grid Station.
The maintenance work began at 8:00 AM and will continue until 8:00 PM. Electricity will remain partially suspended on multiple feeders of the critical pumping station for the next 12 hours.
This disruption will directly impact the water supply to several key areas of the city. Residents should prepare for reduced water availability throughout the day.
The water corporation has identified specific neighbourhoods that will be affected. Supply to Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, DHA, and Chanesar Town will be limited. Additional areas, including Jinnah Town, North Nazimabad, and Gulberg Town, will also experience supply issues. Karachi normally receives 650 million gallons of water daily.
This scheduled maintenance compounds an existing water crisis in the city. KWSC has reported severe shortages throughout November due to prolonged power outages. The corporation provided detailed data on recent water shortages. In the first 23 days of November, the city faced a massive deficit of 884 million gallons.
The Dhabeji pumping station was the most severely affected. It experienced over 132 hours of power outages, resulting in a 424 million-gallon shortfall. Other major pumping stations also recorded significant deficits. The Dumlottee station was without power for 146 hours, causing a 111 million-gallon shortage.
The North East Karachi station faced a 335 million-gallon deficit. Smaller shortages were reported at the Hub, Pipri, and Gharo pumping facilities.
