The Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation completed the repairs on the 84-inch main water line on University Road and has successfully restored the water supply to various parts of the city.
The spokesperson of Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation stated, “We have restored the water supply following the repair of the 84-inch main water line.”
He further mentioned, “Water supply has resumed from the Dhabeji pumping station, and the lines are currently being charged.”
The rupture of the main water line on November 28, caused by construction work on the Red Line Track, had disrupted water service to large city areas.
The delayed pipeline repair led to a significant water crisis in several areas, including Gulshan e Iqbal, Karachi Admin Society, Jamshed Town, Liyari, and the old city. Millions of residents faced severe water shortages for days.

During the repair period, water tanker services were halted due to the closure of two major city hydrants, intensifying the hardships for Karachi citizens.
Reports indicate that Karachi receives only about half of the water it needs. Of this amount, one-third is either illegally siphoned off, allegedly by hydrant or tanker mafias, or lost due to the poor ageing condition and outdated pipelines that have yet to be repaired or replaced.
Experts have called for the unification of all stakeholders to develop well-coordinated policies. They emphasize the need to install and strengthen an authorized local government system to ensure people’s complaints are heard, addressed, and resolved effectively.
