Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced plans for a new Karachi Transport Master Plan. He stated that Karachi requires 15,000 buses to meet the daily travel needs of its residents. This master plan, developed in collaboration with the World Bank, aims to introduce modern transportation options to the city.
The plan includes Bus Rapid Transit systems, metro light rail, and the revival of the Karachi Circular Railway. These projects aim to offer green and efficient travel solutions. The announcement came during a meeting at CM House with a World Bank team led by Ibrahim Khalil Zaki. Shah called the World Bank a key partner for this work.
Ibrahim Khalil Zaki promised full support from the World Bank. The plan will cover buses, metro rail, and trains for tourists and goods. Zaki also stressed the need for a transport industry in Karachi. Chief Minister Shah suggested Dhabeji as a hub for this industry and promised help for investors. Both sides agreed to form a team to finalise the plan’s details.

Once finished in December 2025, it will carry 300,000 passengers daily. The World Bank, the Sindh government, and private companies are funding it. Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said Depot 1 is 10% done, and Depot 2 is 17% complete, with full delivery expected by September 2026.
This plan is a big step for Karachi. It will improve how people move around the city and reduce harm to the environment. Electric buses will make travel cleaner. The partnership with the World Bank shows Sindh’s commitment to modern solutions for a growing city.
