Following the recent rainfall, heavy traffic congestion occurred in multiple areas of Karachi, leaving commuters stranded for hours. Motorcycles broke down on several flooded roads. Traffic on Shahrah-e-Faisal slowed severely, causing long queues of vehicles.
In the Korangi Industrial Area, overflowing drains caused waterlogging that further impeded traffic flow. M.A. Jinnah Road experienced severe traffic snarls, with vehicles stuck in long lines.
The gridlock spread to Gurumandir, Lasbela, and Liaquatabad, significantly disrupting traffic movement. Cars also faced congestion in Saddar, Jamshed Town, Tariq Road, and Mauripur Road. Other affected areas included Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Korangi, Malir, Kala Pul, Qayyumabad, and Brooks Chowrangi. Heavy traffic buildup appeared near Jail Chowrangi, Essa Nagri, Hassan Square, and University Road. Major routes, such as the Lyari Expressway and roads around the National Stadium, also became congested under the downpour.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the Karachi traffic police to improve traffic management across the city. He also instructed that machinery be immediately deployed in areas where rainwater has accumulated. He emphasised that Karachi’s drainage system must remain effective and functional. The Chief Minister further emphasised that every possible facility should be provided to citizens of Karachi during the rain-related disruptions.
Earlier, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched rehabilitation work on 106 roads across the city. These roads were damaged in the recent rains and urban flooding.

During a late-night inspection tour of different areas, including the Korangi district, Murtaza Wahab promised completion within 60 days. He added that the initiative aims to restore damaged streets and improve urban mobility. He noted that KMC had earlier rebuilt key routes such as Malir Kala Board and Khokhrapar roads, along with several inner streets. The mayor criticised the town administrations for granting permissions for gas line installations. This led to road cutting without ensuring proper restoration.

Karachi, which handles 60% of Pakistan’s port traffic (Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, 2025), frequently experiences disruptions due to rain-related events. These affect 70% of its 20 million residents (CSDS, 2025). Effective traffic and drainage management, alongside KMC’s road repairs, are critical to restoring mobility and economic activity in this vital hub.
