The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts rain showers with thunderstorms in Karachi today and tomorrow, promising a break from the severe heatwave gripping the city.
The Met Office reports that thunderstorms may precede the rain, especially in the suburbs during the afternoon and evening hours.
Karachi endured a dust storm on Wednesday, exacerbating the sweltering and humid conditions.
Despite the heat, the Met Office has forecast isolated heavy rains and dust thunderstorms across various parts of Sindh, including Karachi, starting next Tuesday. This follows a recorded “feels like” temperature of 51°C at around 2 pm on Monday.
Chief Meteorologist Karachi, Sardar Sarfaraz, notes that a low-pressure system south of India’s Gujarat affects the region’s weather. He mentioned, “Under this system, Karachi could see thunderstorms and rain from June 26 to July 1.”
The Meteorological Department also highlighted that other areas, such as Mithi, Umerkot, and several districts, could experience strong winds, dust storms, and thunderstorms.
Moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are moving towards southern and eastern Pakistan and are anticipated to spread to the northern regions by Thursday. This movement will bring thundershowers and gusty winds to Sindh and beyond.
