A powerful thunderstorm swept through Karachi on June 26, 2025, offering relief from intense heat but plunging much of the city into darkness. Heavy rain, lightning, and thunder disrupted power across numerous areas, with over 200 K-Electric feeders tripping. Consequently, residents faced hours of outages, prompting swift action from city authorities and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The storm hit areas like Surjani Town, Malir, North Karachi, Clifton, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, causing significant power disruptions. K-Electric confirmed feeder trips in Nazimabad, Jamshed Town, and the old city area, with Maripur, Lyari, and Keamari also affected. For instance, Garden West’s Fawara Chowk lost power at midnight, as residents reported to Geo News. Meanwhile, precautionary shut-offs in low-lying areas like PIB Colony and parts of Korangi aimed to ensure safety amid flooding risks.
Rain stopped a little while back. Drains have so far responded well and the water has been drained out with only some water along the kerb stones. Video is of Sir Shah Suleman Road near Expo Centre. Municipal team is out on the roads. Will keep everyobe posted pic.twitter.com/MZulAv5mAK

K-Electric acted promptly once the rain subsided, restoring power to key areas like Allama Iqbal Road, Tariq Road, and Clifton Blocks 1, 2, and 6. Additionally, electricity returned to Punjab Colony, Sindhi Muslim Society, and parts of Liaquatabad. The utility noted that 1,750 of Karachi’s 2,100 feeders were operational, with Gulshan-e-Maymar, PCSIR, and Karachi University Society fully restored. However, renewed outages in Clifton Block 5 and Yaseenabad sparked resident frustration, as shared on X. K-Electric emphasized prioritizing critical sites like hospitals and the airport, per their statement.
Chundrigar Road is also clear. Drain was cleared through winching and this portion was important because we had experimented with the centre median to regulate the traffic. It mashallah seems to have worked out well & it has so far not impeded the flow of rain water pic.twitter.com/NfELdDiRrj

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, inspected affected areas like Defence’s Khayaban-e-Hilal and the Sindh Assembly. He reviewed drainage efforts and ordered municipal staff to remain on high alert, canceling their leaves to ensure round-the-clock response. For example, suction pumps were deployed in low-lying areas to clear water, as confirmed by Zaidi. Wahab’s visits to key landmarks underscored the urgency of restoring normalcy, as reported by Geo News.
Sindh Minister and PDMA Chairman Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman directed Rescue 1122 teams to act swiftly, minimizing public inconvenience. He stressed providing maximum relief, with PDMA officials monitoring the situation across Sindh. The authority’s proactive stance, including deploying emergency resources, aimed to mitigate the storm’s impact, particularly in flood-prone areas, aligning with prior PDMA alerts for heavy rain
