Law enforcement agencies have foiled a major terror plot in Karachi after recovering more than four tonnes of explosives during a targeted operation in the Raees Goth area, security officials confirmed on Monday.
The operation followed intelligence obtained from apprehended terrorists. Acting on this information, security teams conducted a raid that led to the seizure of 60 drums filled with explosives, five gas cylinders, and a mini truck used for transportation. Officials said the explosives had been moved into the city in drums, indicating plans for large-scale attacks.
Bomb disposal squads safely defused the recovered explosives at the site. Authorities said the timely operation prevented potential loss of life and significant damage to property in one of the country’s largest cities.

The raid comes amid intensified counterterrorism efforts across Pakistan, which has faced a rise in militant activity since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Kabul. Security agencies remain on high alert, particularly in urban centres and border regions.
Despite recent challenges, Pakistan recorded a decline in terrorist incidents toward the end of 2025. According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies, terror attacks dropped by nearly 17 per cent in December and nine per cent in November.
However, the same report noted that overall violence surged by 34 per cent in 2025, making it the deadliest year in the past decade. The country has seen five consecutive years of rising violence since 2021, coinciding with political changes in Afghanistan.
The situation remains most severe in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which accounted for more than 96 per cent of total fatalities and nearly 93 per cent of violent incidents in 2025. In contrast, Sindh reported 51 incidents, resulting in 56 deaths and 40 injuries.
Security operations continued nationwide throughout the year. Authorities reported about 2,060 deaths linked to at least 392 security actions. Militants accounted for over 60 per cent of those fatalities, exceeding the combined losses of civilians and security personnel.
Officials said operations like the Raees Goth raid reflect ongoing efforts to dismantle terror networks, disrupt logistics, and prevent future attacks across the country.
