Street crime remains a persistent issue in Karachi, Pakistan’s financial hub, with recent incidents targeting even the smallest of vendors.
Geo News, a local private news channel, reported an alarming incident in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal 13-D area, where three men in a police vehicle targeted a betel shop. On the night of June 12, at around 11 PM, they robbed the shopkeeper of Rs15,000 in cash and cigarettes worth approximately Rs50,000.
The police filed a first information report (FIR) based on the shopkeeper’s complaint. This report also mentions an earlier robbery on June 2, in which the same shopkeeper was deprived of Rs7,000. After the most recent incident, the shopkeeper was temporarily held in the police vehicle, missing its rear vehicle identification number (VIN). He was later abandoned at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal roundabout after an additional Rs10,000 was forcibly taken from him.
The police are actively working to identify the suspects involved in these incidents. Their investigative efforts include reviewing footage from nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to gather evidence and leads.
