Residents of Karachi’s Garden area expressed their frustration by throwing stones at the K-Electric office on Sunday, April 27, 2025, protesting a more than 20-hour power outage.
The protest began as locals, frustrated by the extended electricity outage since 6 a.m. and K-Electric’s unresponsiveness, gathered outside the office, chanting slogans and throwing stones.
Residents have reported making multiple complaints to the power company with no response, increasing their frustration. “The company has ignored us, leaving the neighbourhood without power for over twenty hours,” said one protester. The outage disrupted daily life and fueled public outrage over K-Electric’s service failures.

This incident comes amid ongoing scrutiny of K-Electric. In a separate case, a Karachi court fined the company Rs 4.81 million in 2025 for the electrocution death of 8-year-old Azhan in 2017.
The incident occurred when a broken live wire caused the tragedy during rainfall. Senior Civil Judge Ambreen Jamal cited negligence and insufficient safety measures and ordered compensation for Azhan’s family.
