The special policing powers of Sindh Rangers, expired midnight today (Night between Friday and Saturday).
The Sindh provincial government had approved a 90-day extension in Rangers’ special powers in Karachi in January. The notification granting powers to the paramilitary force took effect from January 16, 2017.
Sources said the Home Department of Sindh has forwarded a summary for extension in the Rangers powers to Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah on April 05, which is pending for approval.
The special policing powers are granted to the paramilitary force under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997 which allow the Rangers to carry out raids, search and arrest suspects.
